Sunny Deol has officially revealed the title of his much-anticipated historical drama, Batwara 1947, ending months of speculation surrounding the project previously known as Lahore 1947. The announcement was made on June 9, 2026, alongside a powerful first-look video that offers audiences a glimpse into the turbulent backdrop of India’s Partition.
Scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026, the film is produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. The collaboration brings together three of Bollywood’s most respected names, making it one of the year’s most anticipated releases.
The first-look visuals highlight the devastating impact of the 1947 Partition, focusing on themes of displacement, loss, resilience, and survival. One striking poster features Sunny Deol holding a blazing torch while standing protectively beside Preity Zinta and Karan Deol, suggesting a family struggling to navigate the violence and uncertainty of the era. Another image shows Deol running through a landscape engulfed in flames, hinting at the scale and intensity of the narrative.
The film also marks a major reunion between Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, the duo behind iconic films such as Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak. Their partnership has long been celebrated for delivering powerful stories with emotional depth and social relevance.
Adding to the excitement is Preity Zinta’s return alongside Sunny Deol. The actress has previously described the project as one of the most challenging roles of her career. The ensemble cast also includes Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh in significant roles.
With Sunny Deol enjoying a strong box-office phase, Batwara 1947 is expected to be one of the biggest cinematic events of 2026.
