The Hindi film Main Vaapas Aaunga has registered a disappointing start at the Indian box office, recording an estimated opening-day collection of around ₹1.25 crore nett. Despite being the week’s primary Hindi release, the film struggled to attract audiences and delivered numbers far below industry expectations.
The weak opening has surprised trade observers, particularly because the film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and features popular actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh. While the film was never expected to be a major blockbuster opener, its first-day performance has fallen short even of conservative projections.
Industry analysts note that the film opened below several competing releases, including smaller-budget projects that entered cinemas with significantly less publicity. Although the East Punjab market showed relatively stronger support due to Diljit’s popularity, the overall nationwide performance remained underwhelming.
The disappointing start has increased pressure on the film’s weekend performance. Box-office experts believe that a substantial turnaround would require exceptionally positive audience feedback and strong word of mouth. However, early reactions suggest that such a dramatic recovery may be difficult to achieve.
Advance booking trends for the second day have shown only marginal improvement, indicating limited momentum heading into the weekend. Current trade estimates suggest the film may finish its opening weekend below the ₹5 crore nett mark.
If the trend continues, reaching even ₹10 crore nett during its entire theatrical run could prove challenging. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Main Vaapas Aaunga can recover from its slow start or continue to struggle at the ticket windows across India.
