SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated action-adventure film Varanasi has generated fresh excitement after veteran writer Vijayendra Prasad revealed new details about a key sequence in the film. Speaking during a fan interaction hosted by Filmy Focus, the acclaimed screenwriter shared insights into a much-discussed 30-minute segment that he believes will leave audiences completely captivated.
When asked whether the sequence was rooted in mythology, spirituality, or politics, Prasad confirmed that it revolves around an epic battle from the Ramayana. According to him, the sequence depicts a dramatic war between Lord Rama and Kumbhakarna, one of the most iconic confrontations in Indian mythology. The revelation immediately sparked discussions among fans eager to understand how the legendary episode will be integrated into the film’s narrative.
Prasad hinted that glimpses of the sequence had already appeared in promotional material. He referenced visuals featuring Lord Rama, Kumbhakarna, Lord Hanuman’s tail, and a chariot, describing the overall experience as “spellbinding.” However, he refrained from revealing additional details about the storyline, maintaining the mystery surrounding the project.
The comments have fueled speculation about the roles played by the film’s star-studded cast. Some fans believe actor Prithviraj Sukumaran could portray Kumbhakarna in the mythological portions of the story, although no official confirmation has been made.
Rajamouli had previously revealed that Mahesh Babu appears as Lord Rama in a segment of the film, recalling how impressed he was upon seeing the actor in costume during an early photoshoot.
Featuring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in leading roles, Varanasi is currently in production and is expected to release during the Sankranti 2027 festive season.
