Trailer Launch Sparks Global Frenzy for ‘Peddi’ as Pre-Sales Skyrocket, Spotlighting Janhvi Kapoor’s Hard-Hitting Character Arc Over Sister Khushi

In a candid revelation that has set social media buzzing, Peddi director Buchi Babu Sana disclosed that Janhvi Kapoor’s highly anticipated role in the Ram Charan-starrer was originally intended for her younger sister, Khushi Kapoor. The filmmaker opened up about the awkwardness of switching casting choices within the exact same household during the pre-production phase of the massive sports action drama.

Speaking in an interview ahead of the film’s June 4 theatrical release, Buchi Babu Sana shared that he had initially approached Khushi Kapoor for the pivotal character of Achiyamma. However, plans changed drastically the moment they met face-to-face. “I initially narrated the film to Khushi Kapoor. But once I saw her in person, I realised that she’s too young for this character,” the director revealed.

The filmmaker admitted feeling deeply uncomfortable navigating the sibling dynamic after making his decision. “Now, imagine when I have to reject Khushi and give a narration to Janhvi in the same home. I felt bad and asked Janhvi if Khushi didn’t take offence,” he recalled. Describing the blunt honesty required for the craft, he told Khushi directly, “I don’t want you in the film; I want your sister.”

Ultimately, the director felt Achiyamma demanded an emotionally intense, mature presence that perfectly aligned with Janhvi, whom he had envisioned while writing the script. Set in 1980s rural Andhra Pradesh against the backdrop of cricket and traditional wrestling, Peddi features Janhvi in a bold, fiery, deglamorized avatar that has fans eagerly awaiting the onscreen pairing.
